SPROCKIDS INFORMATION

THE LEADER

It was agreed that the Sprockids NICP is a nationally co-coordinated program with community-based delivery. We encourage leaders to partner with a local interested party and take their own energy and the enthusiasm and excitement of the participants to deliver a great program.

As such, the key local deliverers include:

- Affiliated cycling clubs
- National Cycling Centres
- Provincial and Territorial Cycling Organizations
- Schools
- Bike stores (member of the BTAC - Bicycle and Trades Association of Canada)
- Universities and colleges
- Municipalities
- Other recognize institutions such as Boys and Girls Clubs, Scouts, etc.

The CCA recommends that leaders should be linked to one of the above mentioned deliverers.

The training of CCA Sprockids Leaders is consistent with the Coaching Association of Canada Certification program oriented toward competencies. The training will focus on: Teaching skills, Analyzing performances planning and design of sessions, Provide support, Management, Ethical.

The content of the CCA Sprockids E-Training is developed by a core group of master course conductors. The initial core group is composed of the CCA Sprockidsdevelopment committee.

THE OPTION - Online and On site training

Canadian Cycling Association strongly believes that on line Sprockids leader training program will greatly help in developing leaders across the country. Although we know access to Internet is now somewhat taken for granted, we will also offer complete on-site training to potential Leaders. The course curriculum for such training will be adapted to fit in with the on-site review for the Leaders who have chosen to take to E-Training and whish to learn more from their master course conductor.

Who can become a CCA Sprockids NICP Leader:

You can be a CCA Sprockids NICP leader if you posses the following requirements:

1. Know how to ride a bike

2. To be recommended (in the form of a letter of recommendation) and supported by one of the following organization (delivers):

- Affiliated cycling clubs
- National Cycling Centres
- Provincial and Territorial Cycling Organizations
- Schools
- Bike stores (member of the BTAC - Bicycle and Trades Association of Canada)
- Universities and colleges
- Municipalities
- Other recognize institutions such as Boys and Girls Clubs, Scouts, etc.

3. Must provide a current police check

4. To be a member of your Provincial Cycling Association

5. 16 years old minimum

6. First aid course (optional)

How do I get recommended and supported by a recognized organization:

The CCA Sprockids NICP is a nationally co-coordinated program with community-based delivery. A Leader must have a letter of recommendation and partnership from one of the recognized deliverers to be accepted in the Training. (See section « Recognized organization definition under the Information tab at the top»)

How much is the CCA Sprockids NICP Leader training:

The cost to the complete Training is 75$ and includes the following:.

- One day training

RECOGNIZED ORGANIZATION DEFINITIONS

Affiliated cycling club recognition:

To be recognized as an affiliated club, the club must be affiliated with his provincial cycling association according to the rules and policies establish by the provincial cycling association. The clubs affiliated with provincial cycling association have access to different services, support and programs like a low cost insurance program.

National cycling centre recognition:

The CCA has put into place 7 National Cycling Centres. Located in Victoria BC, Calgary AB, Hamilton ON, Hardwood Hills ON, Bromont QC, St. Augustin QC et Dieppe NB, the primary role of the National Cycling Centre is to recruit and initiate new cyclists, and to detect cycling talent. This involves running large-scale programs to bring the greatest possible number of youths in contact with the type of cycling activities that will hold their interest and giving them positive experiences through supervised cycling activities.

Provincial and/or territorial cycling organization recognition:

To be recognized as a provincial and/or territorial cycling organization, the organization must be a partner with the Canadian Cycling Association.

Provincial and/or territorial sport organization recognition:

To be recognized as a provincial and/or territorial sport organization, the organization must be a partner with the national sport governing body.

School / school group / university / college recognition:

To be a recognized school / school group / university / college, the program has to be addressed to a group of student of the same school and to be delivered withiin the framework of the school activities program.

Bike shop recognition (member of BTAC):

To be recognized as a BTAC bike shop, the bike shop must be a member or affiliated with BTAC according to the rules and policies establish by BTAC. The program has to be delivered in the framework of community activities offered by the shop.

Recreation club and/or centre:

To be a recognized recreation club and/or centre, the club and/ or centre must be recognized as it is according to the rules and policies established by the governing body. The program must be delivered as an activity offered by the recreation club and/or centre.

Municipality recognition:

To be recognized as a municipality, the program has to be addressed exclusively to children originating from the same municipality. It must be delivered in the activities program offered by the municipality.

Children institution/ group recognition:

To be recognized as an institution/group for children, the program must be addressed exclusively to children who are part of the specific institution/group. It must be delivered in the activities program offered by the institution/group. (Boys and girls Clubs, Scouts, etc.).
