07.13.07 - 2007 Tim Hortons Track Nationals - Stéphane
Cossette wins sprint event
Montreal, July 13, 2007 (Sportcom) – Alberta’s
Monique Sullivan and Quebec’s Stéphane
Cossette won the junior sprint races in wet conditions
on Friday at the 2007 Tim Hortons Track Nationals cycling
competition at Bromont, Que.
Sullivan reclaimed the title clocking 13.064 seconds
and 13.194 in the two rounds. Laurie-Anne Dupont-Renaud
and Shanie Bergeron were second and third respectively.
‘’I was first in qualifying this morning
which set me up well for the final.’’ The
18-year-old said she was very satisfied with her race.
‘’I won in 2005 but in 2006 I was training
Europe and couldn’t attend nationals. So I’m
pleased to have the title again.’’
In the men’s event, Cossette, 18, successfully
defended his title and is anxious to race at next month’s
world juniors.
‘’It wasn’t a close race,’’
he said. ‘’I felt in control. I’m
more mature now and my training has really improved.’’
Cossette defeated Joseph Veloce of Ontario in the final
2-0 clocking 12.129 and 12.243. François Chabot
of Quebec won the third place match in 11.968 and 12.273.
Competition continues through to Sunday.
