07.14.07 - 2007 Tim Hortons Track Nationals
- Second national track title
for Cossette and the Cloutier-Chalifour tandem
Montreal, July 14, 2007 – Stéphane Cossette
and the Alex Cloutier-Daniel Chalifour tandem each won
a second title with victories in their respective one
kilometre time trials Saturday at the 2007 Tim Hortons
Track Nationals cycling competition.
In junior competition, Cossette added a second crown
after winning Friday’s sprint. An attempt for
a third gold didn’t materialize however in the
Keirin as Joseph Veloce capitalized on an error by Cossette
for the victory. ‘’It was team work,’’
said Veloce, savouring his first national title. “We
wanted to control the race and fend off all attacks.
It worked.’’
In paracycling, Cloutier and Chalifour notched a second
gold after their pursuit win on Friday.
In women’s racing, Shanie Bergeron of Quebec won
the junior women’s points race. ‘’I’m
surprised I didn’t know my opposition very well,’’
said Bergeron, second in Friday’s sprint. ‘’But
this result keeps me on pace for my season objectives.’’
‘’My strategy was to attack often and wear
out the other riders. But I didn’t expect to lap
the field with 19 laps to go,’’ said Bergeron.
She was caught with three laps remaining but held on
to win by a quarter lap.
The 2007 Tim Hortons Track Nationals conclude Sunday.
