06.12.09 -2009 Tour de Beauce - Team Canada
After three stages, the 2009 Tour de Beauce has covered
480 of a total 816 kilometres and Canadian riders have
appeared on the podium in two out of three stages.
Stage three saw substantial changes to the standings
on Thursday. Colombian riders finished first and second
on a 155 kilometre stage from St-Georges de Beauce to
the mountain top finish at the Mont Megantic Observatory,
and took the lead in the overall standings, with Darwin
Atapuma winning the stage and team mate Sergio Luis
Henao finishing second.
Henao donned the Yellow Jersey of race leader, after
taking a three second time bonus earlier in the stage.
Canadian National Team member Cameron Evans of Vancouver
was the top Canadian finisher in 14th place, three minutes
and 44 seconds behind Atapuma and Henao. Ryan Roth (Planet
Energy) remains the top Canadian in the overall standings
in ninth place, three minutes and 25 seconds behind
Henao. Evans is Team Canada's top rider after three
stages, in 21st place and 6:58 behind Henao.
Cam Evans - "After my crash [at a race in Arizona],
I spent two weeks completely off the bike, and am just
getting back into competition now, so I didn't know
what to expect here. I suffered for the first couple
of days here, but it is getting better every day. I'm
here looking for stage wins, not the overall standing,
so there's still a couple of chances in the last two
stages."
