06.22.09 -National classification for Para-cyclists

Ottawa, June 16, 2009 – The Canadian Cycling
Association is proud to offer a cycling classification
for the para-cyclists athletes competing at the National
Road Cycling Championships. (Please note that this service
will be offered prioritising athletes competing at this
given event. Any other athlete interested shall send
a request to the para-cycling coordinator mentioned
below.) There will only be one team present so there
will be no protests allowed.
This will enable athletes to receive or confirm their
sport class and sport class status. This classification
is MANDATORY for athletes whom never been classified
in para-cycling and shall occur BEFORE the athlete’s
event. Therefore, if you have never received a classification
before and wish to participate to the individual time
trial, you must make an appointment for Wednesday July
1st. Two UCI (Union cycliste internationale) sanctioned
representatives will be on site at the National Road
Cycling Championships to process to the technical and
practical assessment of the athletes.
The assessments will take place at the Georgesville
Hotel in St-Georges de Beauce, Wednesday July 1, 2009,
from 9:00 to 16:00 and Friday, July 3, 2009, from 9:00
to 16:00. The appointment will be conducted privately,
in a specific board room clearly identified at the reception
of the hotel. You are requested to arrive 15 min prior
your appointment time and expect 1h30 for the completion
of your assessment. Please, have in your possession
your full medical history (a specific form will be available
and posted on line shortly), official picture indentification
, cycling clothes and your bicycle for the practical
assessment.
It is strongly recommended to register prior to your
arrival on the competition site by contacting para-cyclist
coordinator, Julie Hutsebaut (contacts below), clearly
indicating your name, category of disability and the
time and date that will be at your best convenience
(a confirmation will then be sent to you). It will also
be possible to register on site, depending on the remaining
availability.
Finally, you are invited to a short information session
hosted by the Canadian Cycling Association, Friday July
3 at 17:00, at Hotel Le Georgesville (room to be confirmed).
Para-cycling coordinator, Julie Hutsebaut and para-cycling
national coach, Eric Van den Eynde will present you
the remaining 2009 National Team Program and different
development programs. All are welcome and no registration
is required.
