CANADA CUP SERIES CROSS-COUNTRY RACE AT PANORAMA CANCELLED
Organisers forced to take the difficult decision to
cancel the XC event
(Ottawa, ON – July 22, 2011) The 2011 Canada
Cup series cross-country (XC) race scheduled for July
30 at Panorama Mountain Resort has been cancelled, announced
the Canadian Cycling Association on Friday.
Organizers were forced to make the exceptional and
difficult decision to cancel the cross-country portion
of the Canada Cup series due to low registration numbers.
The Canada Cup Series has been highly successful so
far this season, both in terms of riders registration
and quality of field.
The Canada Cup Series race in Edmonton, Alta, July
23, will be the series final race of the season. There
will be changes to the calculations of the overall standings,
as the best three results of the four events will now
count towards the final standings.
The 2011 Canada Cup Downhill (DH) Series will end July
31 at Panorama Mountain Resort with the presentation
of the third and final downhill race of the series.
The Canada Cup series represents the highest calibre
of coordinated domestic racing in Canada. The goal of
the series is two-fold: First, the series is intended
to provide athletes from across the country with the
best possible competitive preparation to aspire to national
and international level events. Second, to develop and
promote the sport of cycling in Canada through the encouraged
participation of all age and ability categories.
