07.25.11 - The Tour de la Relève took control of the roads today!

AMOS, July 23rd 2011 – The Tour de la Relève launched its 13th edition this morning. This competition, which is the last of the five (5) stages of the Coupe du Québec Apogée, once again gathered young cyclists between the ages of 7 and 16 who were nervous because the overall winner is to be announced this Sunday.

The emerging cyclists from all over Québec are now performing and providing a different entertainment which is as amazing as the Tour de l’Abitibi.

M. Jacques Lalancette, technical director of the Tour de la Relève Desjardins, considers this competition to be a stepping stone for the future juniors. “The fact of participating in the Tour de la Relève, which is taking place along the Tour de l’Abitibi, gives the young athletes the chance to see what an international race looks like, to meet reputed junior athletes and to benefit from the facilities already in place; it encourages the young athletes to continue!” said M. Lanlancette.

With a favorable weather, the young cyclists were spared the extreme heat that submerged the city throughout the week and despite the wind’s presence it did not influence the race.

The Ambulances Abitémis stage was the first stage of the Tour de la Relève Desjardins. It consisted of a route circuit that was held on route 395 North. The race was done by cyclists in six (6) different categories; Pee-Wee girls, Pee-Wee boys, Minime girls, Minime boys and finally Cadet girls and Cadet boys.
