01.20.07 - Cycling – UCI Track World Cup Los Angeles, USA. Canada’s Gina Grain 6th in the Women’s Points Race
January 20, 2007 (Ottawa, ON) – Canada’s Gina Grain of Victoria, British Columbia captured the 6th place of the UCI Track World Cup Women’s Points Race Friday, January 19th at the Carson velodrome in Los Angeles, CA.
"I'm happy with the sixth place result," commented Gina Grain about her good ride in the finals of the Women’s Points race on day 1 of the Los Angeles UCI Track World Cup Friday, after placing 7th in her qualifying heat 1.
"It's definitely an improvement from last year - I've had a lot of technical and tactical progress, my form was planned to peak for L.A. and we succeeded. Things are looking good for the world championships and the future," added the 2006 National Champion of the discipline.
Gina Grain will also race the Women’s Scratch tomorrow (Sunday) and expectations are high for the 2006 silver world championship scratch race medalist.
Canada’s Travis Smith (residing in Los Angeles, CA) was fourth in his heat in round 1 of the Men’s Keirin, then he was relegated in the repechage and did not make it to the finals. Svein Tuft (BC) placed 13th in the Men’s Individual Pursuit qualification.
In the Men’s Scratch race, Ryan McKenzie (AB) finished 9th and Marsh Cooper 16th of their qualification round. Ryan McKenzie made it for a 24th place in the finals.
Today (Saturday), Julia Bradley (ON) placed 16th in the Women’s Pursuit qualifying, while Travis Smith took the 16th position as well in the Men’s Sprint qualifying.
