04.26.06 - The CCA is riding alongside Québec's Cycling Federation (FQSC) in the « Roulez Gagnants au Naturel ! » Campaign
Ottawa, ON, April 26 2006 - The Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) is proud to lend its support to the Fédération Québécoise des Sports Cyclistes (FQSC)'s "Roulez gagnants au naturel" campaign, with the shared aim of eradicating doping from sports, which is part of the CCA core values.

CCA President Dr. Pierre Blanchard, who, in addition to his professional medical activities is also an active Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) antidoping inspector, and UCI medical expert during the Tour de France 2002, 2003 and 2004, said: "To ride without drugs is part of the CCA values and we are riding alongside Québec's cycling federation in this major project aiming at heightening the younger generations awareness of the doping problem not only in cycling, but in all sports, a problem which truly needs to be taken seriously."

"What can we do to eradicate doping from sports? Our respective federations will take preventive actions and favour education rather than repression, and the FQSC campaign is perfectly following this line of conduct," added Pierre Blanchard.

Therefore, in light of two high-profile doping suspensions involving Canadian cyclists, the management, employees and coaches of the Canadian Cycling Association wish to reaffirm their commitment to eradicating drugs from sport, particularly cycling.

Canadian Cycling Association Anti Doping Commitment
We firmly believe that the respect of others and, above all, the respect of oneself are key to any athletic performance. That's why we will always ensure our athletes have the right to compete in an environment that respects the standards of fair-play in sport.

By working with the authorities leading the fight against doping, we continue to discourage and detect the use of banned substances and illegal practices, through educational and other means. Our elite athletes are examples to the young people of today, and it is our duty to uphold the values transmitted through sport: respect, self-improvement, developing a work ethic and mutual aid, to name but a few.

To all the young people who are involved in sport, especially competitive cycling, we would like to say the following:

Sport is a wonderful class in the school of life where everyone who takes part gains. Beyond pursuing medals and Olympic titles, we the management, employees and coaches of the Canadian Cycling Association are doing our utmost to develop proud and responsible individuals who are able to make an outstanding contribution to society.

About CCA
The CCA is the national governing body for Canadian cycling. Representing its members (individuals, clubs and trade teams) through provincial and territorial cycling associations, its mission is to lead and support the development and growth of cycling in Canada, through high performance programs, cycling development centres, national and international events, and the national introduction to cycling program for youth, known as Sprockids. Founded in 1882, it is Canada's oldest sport governing body.
