06.24.06 - UCI Downhill World Cup Mont-Sainte-Anne: France's Sabrina Jonnier and Australian Chris Kovarik take gold, Adrienne Miller, 10th, and Andrew Mitchell, 26th, top Canadians.
Mont-Sainte-Anne, June 24, 2006 - The longest World Cup course on the circuit provided few surprises as Chris
Kovarik finished ahead of South African Greg Minnaar and Australia's Samuel Hill to take gold at Mont-Sainte-Anne.
In the women's race, Sabrina Jonnier earned first place, followed by Britain's Tracy Moseley and Marielle Saner of
Switzerland. Canada's Adrienne Miller, the first Canadian home, did her hometown of Courtenay, British Columbia
proud with a tenth-place finish.
The top 80 men and 30 women qualified for the finals in the afternoon over the 3.2km downhill race course. The
track wound its way down from the very top of the mountain, although significant changes (40%) had been made to
the course from the previous year.

Apart from Adrienne Miller, Canadians Claire Buchar, from Whistler, British Columbia (16th), Sheila Morris, Barrie,
Ontario, (21st) and Caroline Milot, Drummondville, Québec, (23rd) and Marie-Ève Marcotte (24th) also distinguished
themselves. Danika Shroeter of Maple Ridge, BC, injured herself in training earlier in the week and did not start.
The day was full of disappointment for local rider Charles-Alexandre Dubé, who broke his collar bone in training the
morning of the race. On the other hand, Andrew Mitchell from Vancouver Island, ranked 5th after his run, was
delighted with his result. "The course was faster and tougher today, even drier in the finals than in the training this
morning. I'm really happy with my time."
