06.25.06 - Tim Hortons National Road Cycling Championships - Time Trial Gold for Alexandra Wrubleski (Regina, SK) and Svein Tuft (Langley, BC). Local rider David Veilleux (Cap Rouge, QC) wins in the U23 category and Mark Breton (Charlesbourg, QC) wins at home in the IPC.
Québec City, June 30 2006 - Yesterday time trials were held on the south shore of Québec City, in the Chutes-de-la-Chaudière-Ouest borough of Lévis.

Alexandra Wrubleski (22, Regina, SK), racing for Team H&R Block, took home the gold medal in both the U23 and elite women's category, with a time of 29:21. The athlete from Saskatchewan has already finished the Tour du Grand Montréal in 7th place this season and was ranked 12th in the Women's Cycling World Cup in Montréal. "It was a challenging course without a constant design and I'm happy with the result," she said after the race. She was followed Montrealer Anne Samplonius (37, Team Biovail, QC) ahead of Jessica Spence (Wheels of Bloor Cycling Team). Erinne Willock (Victoria, BC) finished   the race in fourth position. Meanwhile, Émilie Roy (St-Cuthbert, QC), was the first rider from the Québec team to cross the finish line, in 6 th place, followed by teammate Joanie Caron, from Sainte-Foy (QC), in 13th place.

But it was young U23 rider from Cap-Rouge (QC) David Veilleux who delighted the locals by bringing home the Québec City region's first gold medal of the championships, in spite of what he admitted to being a "difficult" course. He placed atime of 26:53, 12 seconds ahead of Christian Meier of Langley, BC, "It's very uneven so it's quite hard to keep your rythme going," Veilleux said after the race. "I'm really happy with my race and pleased that I managed to keep going at an even pace." Ryan Morris (Team Ontario) finished in third at 0:33, followed by Bradley Fairall of North Vancouver (BC).

Svein Tuft (from Langley, BC) repeated his 2005 and 2004 victories by winning the men's elite race held in the evening, with a time of 45:47. Pacific Sport teammate Ryder Hesjedal arrived in second at 00:31and legend Eric Wohlberg from Ontario (2003, 2002 and 2001 Time Trial National Champion) was third at 1:02. Dominique Rollin from Équipe du Québec (Boucherville) was the top Quebecer in 4 th , at 1:52.

Among the junior women, Julie Beveridge (Bicisport, AB) earned the victory with a time of 22:46. She was followed by Danielle Kenny of Team Alberta at 00:06, being good enough for 18-year-old Karol-Ann Canuel of Équipe du Québec (from Amos) to earn a bronze medal.

In the junior men, another Alberta racer found himself on the top step of the podium: Eric Smith (from Calgary,Team Alberta) with a time of 27:47, followed by Andrew Nichol of Manitoba, having Mark Hinnen (of Oakville, ON) to be satisfied with third spot.
