2008: Second Olympic Games participation, first in road racing… First Canadian rider to race in Tour de France since Gord Fraser in 1997…Two top-10 stage finishes at Valenciana… At Fleche Wallonne was in lead group until the final climb but suffered a flat tire… Raced for Slipstream at prestigious Giro d’Italia.. Trained in Hawaii over winter…Former mountain biker, he is a two-time World champion in the mountain bike team relay (2001, 2002), two-time World Championship silver medalist in the mountain bike cross country (U23 in 2001, 2003); bronze World medalist in 1999 mountain bike team relay…finished 22nd in the time trial at the 2006 World Championships in Austria (did not finish the road race)…in 2006, he finished fourth overall at Volta a Catalunya in Spain and a strong 17th overall at Dauphiné Libere - the third North American and top rider on his team and after that he was ranked 45th in the ProTour (the highest ranking by a Canadian since Steve Bauer)…a flat tire took him out of the 2004 Olympic Games and a bruise to his leg ended his effort at the World Championships…in 2001, he was the best ranked espoir (U23) rider in the world…turned professional in 2005 with the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team after spending several years with the Rabobank amateur team; then after 2005 season he joined the Swiss team Phonak, and joined Health Net in 2007 after the Phonak team collapsed…a strong time trialist…his first international competition was the 1996 MTB World Championships in Australia…trains in Victoria…previous coach was Juerg Feldmann…started cycling at age 12 and competed in local races on Vancouver Island…would like to ride in the Tour de France.
